Getting a Second Opinion

second opinion Dr Agnes Ryu

People often seek second opinions before deciding on the route they will take in the future. IVF is often used as the default first-line treatment for patients presenting with various kinds of subfertility, while it is a fact that IVF in its present form cannot make up for all births lost by the natural decline of fertility after age 35 years.

It is true that women aged 35 or over still have a significant chance of spontaneous conception. But in the case of failure, it is known that IVF will not fully compensate for the years lost and failure to conceive.

Conventional medicine does not appreciably improve fecundity in women and the fertility clinics are not geared for natural conception. But most of our patients would like to enhance and realize their own natural fertility potential and get pregnant naturally using less invasive means using their own eggs. Dr Ryu has focused solely on patients who are over 35 and those with the poor outcome with assisted reproduction. Recent research and our accumulated experiences convinced us that natural fertility and the fertility span can be enhanced.

Improving natural fertility potential by means of improving metabolic health and by treating underlying problems means that more often than not women fall pregnant despite repeated failed IVF attempts. Again, through our experiences, we have learned that you and your partners’ own natural fecundity is the limiting factor in IVF success and people can still have babies after multiple IVF attempts. People who have suffered for a long time with unexplained infertility in the western medicine model find their symptoms are readily defined in Eastern medicine and can often be treated successfully.  Fertility in women of advanced reproductive age can be improved naturally to a significant extent and recent research has shown that there are ways to affect the quality of eggs and sperm and therefore improve the chances of becoming pregnant. It is not yet recognized in conventional medicine that there are ways to improve sperm parameters.

According to recent research, IVF rates in Europe have plateaued. Academics have suggested that we might have reached our natural limit when it comes to fertility treatments – roughly the same as the natural pregnancy rate – while others have pointed to the number of older women having IVF, who have a lower chance of success. It is a fact that the effectiveness of assisted reproduction technology (ART) also depends on age and the patients’ natural fertility potential.

Over the years Dr. Ryu has provided natural fertility services for women and men to improve the prospects of conception as well as helping to prevent miscarriages, both for patients who are pursuing assisted reproduction as well as those seeking an all-natural solution.
